Memberstack is a great tool to get started with, and I'm excited to see it continue to scale its offering.

With that said, I think it'd be prudent to understand what would be involved in transitioning away from Memberstack once you have the needs and/or resources to build out your own membership management. Has anyone already gone through this?

What would be involved in transitioning Memberstack members to your own system?

I'm wondering how much could be done behind the scenes. I'm guessing you'd need to prompt the user to create a new password, so what other ways might the transition be less than seamless for the end user.

Gotta say I've wondered exactly the same.

Whilst I'm happy to use it for auth and subscription management, I'm less confident to store other user metadata which might be difficult to export.

I'd have more confidence if there was a JSON export option for all member data
Hi Alex! 👋

I'd be happy to help you with this issue! So, there IS a couple ways you could extra member information, but it would not include some information without using our Front-end API. Here's a break down below:

From our Export Member Data article: 👇

What's included?

  • Unique Member ID
  • Email address
  • Signup data: formatted as MM/DD/YYYY or 07/14/2020.
  • Custom fields
  • Key (Metadata): More info →
  • Membership ID: The unique identifier for that membership. More →
  • Membership name: Plain text name as it appears on your site.
  • Status: active, canceled, past_due, unpaid, trialing, incomplete, incomplete_expired and SCA.

What's not included?

  • A member's JSON object. More info →
  • GDPR opt-in
  • Passwords: This is because our passwords are really secure, and if they were exported, they would not be usable.

Alternatively, if you have any coding knowledge, you can access the Front-end API at Memberstack. <= From this link, "Front-end API allows you to get member info through a hook. You can also update profile info and access a member's JSON object."

Please let me know if you have any questions! 😄  I'll be happy to help in any way I can!
